Kodak Announces Ektar 100 in 120 Format

Written by Meiso Soul Management

Kodak Ektar 100 in 120 formatKodak has just announced that their Ektar 100 film will be available worldwide in 120 format starting in April 2009.

For those of you not familiar with the Ektar 100 in 35mm, it is the successor to the now discontinued Kodak 100 UC (Ultra Color). The new Ektar 100 is known for it's high saturation and ultra-vivid color in an ISO 100 film. Kodak claims the Ektar 100 features "the finest, smoothest grain of any color negative film available today," making it ideal for scanning or sharper print enlargements.

The Kodak Ektar is definitely aimed at the professional or advanced amateur who shoots nature, fashion, travel or still products. But this film will obviously attract the LOMO/HOLGA/DIANA shooters looking to add some extra punch to their photos without having to cross process their film.

All that being said, I'm headed down to Freestyle Photo to pick up some Kodak Ektar in 120 format.  Currently they have them available only in 5 packs. So if you're in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area you might want to grab them before they run out.  As a note, I checked a few online sites and most of them are out of stock, except for Calumet.

I'll keep you posted on how the shots come out. With some luck, by this weekend; realistically, not until next week.

In the mean time, check out some technical features/specs from the Kodak webpage on the new Ektar 100:

Kodak Announces Ektar 100 in 35mm Format

Kodak recently announced that they will be reintroducing their line of Ektar film.

For those of you not familiar with the discontinue Ektar 25 slide, it was known for being extremely sharp and very unforgiving. Unlike the old Ektar 25, the new Ektar 100 is a negative film. Offering shooters faster speed film with the exposure flexability of negative film.

In reality, the Ektar 100 is the successor to the now discontinued Kodak 100 UC (Ultra Color).

But this film will obviously attract the LOMO shooters looking to add some extra punch to their photos without having to cross process their film.

Eventhough I would like to try this film out, I'm currently back to shooting mostly black & white film. So I'm in the process of experimenting with various combinations of black & white films and developer. Maybe in the near future I'll get to trying out this new film.

In the mean time, check out some technical features/specs from the Kodak webpage on the new Ektar 100:

It's a Hi-matic Day Today : Minolta Hi-Matic 7sii

Written by Meiso Soul Management

Minolta Hi-matic 7sii

This morning turned out to be a surprising day. Being in Central California (to me at least), I wasn't really setting out to go digging, but I happened across a yard sale. Amid a pile of plastic cameras, a compact metal camera caught my eye. Instead of being the normal broken or acid ridden camera from the 1970's, it actually turned out to be something I had been looking for for almost the last ten years.

For the curious, the camera is a late 1970's Minolta Hi-Matic 7sii a nice fast 40/1.7 lens with automatic exposure, AE. Even though it offers AE, the great plus is that it offers the ability to manually set the exposure (both shutter and aperture) so I can begin shooting without a battery. Obviously the 7sii is findable on eBay, but my goal has usually been to buy these type of compact cameras for under $20. So when I heard a price of $15, I checked out the camera thoroughly and snatched up the Hi-Matic 7sii, along with a couple of records.

Photos from Matt Hannon at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice on May 31, 2009

Written by Meiso Soul Management

Matt Hannon was performing at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice on May 31, 2009 so I decided to check the band out. The band consists of Matt Hannon, Chris Moseman on Guitar, Rick Lackowski on Drums and Jon Ronda on Bass.

Being that I've been at the ACSC a few times, I've become pretty familiar with various lighting situations that can arise here.

Here's a sample from Matt Hannon at Air Conditioned Supper Club Venice May 31, 2009
